Personality

Routine
Dusty has never been an achiever. Her lifestyle was pretty simple: complete your task for today, move on to the next task, have a little fun in the weekend, eat, drink and sleep as needed. Never a top student in school (but neither a problematic one), she has put an appropriate, but not excessive, amount of effort into studying, and has always been content with the passing grades she got. Since discovering her mutant powers, however, her world has been turned upside down, so she is currently confused and trying to cope with this new development. At least, this is finally shaking her out of her shell.

Loyal
Dusty has a strong loyalty towards her employers, the Wildenmore-Higgins. To her, they are part of her and her family's life, and she can't imagine herself working for anyone else. Being fired would be a traumatic event for her, like losing a part of her life.

Picky
A lifetime spent taking care of the manor of very exacting employers who are all about etiquette means rigorous precision had to become a second nature to her. Want to drive her crazy and watch her squirm in her seat? Tilt all the picture frames in your house by a few degrees, then invite her over for tea.

Powers

  • Information on your character's power.

Skills

Housekeeping
Everything a servant of an aristocrat might need to know: etiquette, cleaning, ironing, tidying up, cooking, sewing. But, most importantly, dusting. She has dusting down to an art. She always goes around with a feather-duster and a battery-operated mini vacuum cleaner in her purse.

Aim
Darts is a favorite game among the staff of the Wildenmore-Higgins estate. She often got involved with the men playing it after work. She usually beats them, in part because she's good, but for the most part because, unlike her, her opponents usually have had a few pints before the game, and about as many during it. When the players are a bit short on darts, they make do with whatever is available instead. Butter knives, screwdrivers, teaspoons (yes, teaspoons: see part about too many pints), anything goes. Thanks to this practice, she has learned to throw small object with uncanny accuracy.

Trombonist
About twenty years ago, a few members of the Tome family in the service of the Wildenmore-Higgins have started a brass for fun. With time they got known, and they occasionally got to play at a few charity events. Despite not being an official member, Dusty has never missed a rehearsal, and often gets to try the various instruments. She learned to read and write sheet music, sing, and play the trombone like a virtuoso. She can also play other brass instruments with enough proficiency that she'd make a workable understudy for the band, if she committed to it.

Resources

Estate Resources
Her employers can boast a gourmet kitchen, expensive cars, cars for the staff's chores and other expensive stuff. Dusty doesn't have unrestricted access to them, but she occasionally might get to use them (most of the time for work-related reasons). For instance, she might get to sit next to the chauffeur as he drives the Rolls-Royce to the local dealership for the periodic company-sponsored check-up, but she won't even dare to ask to borrow that car for an evening out with the friends. She might ask to borrow a compact car meant for staff use, though, and she might even get it, provided it isn't needed for something else that night. She does have complete free reign over cleaning implements, though. Money? HAHAHA. No. She has her own (not-really-fat) paycheck, she'll have to make do with that one.

Rich Employers
Her employers are not just "old money", they are "museum exhibit antique money". Unfortunately, they have not been in Seattle for long, and anyway, they're just employers. And very old fashioned. And eccentric. Whether Dusty, a humble maid, could count on William or his wife Elizabeth lending their influence for any purpose is completely unpredictable. That is, assuming they have any influence to lend in the first place. That is also completely unpredictable.

Large Family
The Tomes are a large family whose members have the most diverse skills. Dusty has so many sisters she often jokes about having lost count. Then there's people like Crazy Uncle Algernon, who boasts having patented a nuclear-powered lawnmower when he was in the Royal Army. Conveniently enough, his current hobby (or, as he calls it, "line of research") consists in customizing and hardening electrical appliances. Should Dusty need a custom vacuum cleaner in the future (for instance… a wind-powered one which can be worn like a backpack), he'll probably be able to rig something up for her.

The United Kingdom
Being a British citizen, Dusty has access to the relevant embassy and the resources the United Kingdom offers to its citizens.

Portable Vacuum
A present passed down from her mother, this portable battery-operated vacuum cleaner is a jewel of German industry. It runs on two D batteries, which she hasn't changed since receiving it, is strong enough to pull a coin out of a sewer grating, and can withstand falling from a second story window. They don't make them like they used to.

(Seriously: an object which looks like a crumb vacuum, but has the suction power of an average vacuum cleaner. Its resistance is mostly meant to make it able to withstand being used as a blunt object in a fight)

Goals

Work
Well, she's a simple person. She likes her family, she likes her employers, she likes her job as a maid. Cleaning and tidying up is her life, in fact, she's known to pull out a feather-duster or her portable vacuum cleaner even at the coffee shop.

Investigate Powers
Dusty recently discovered she has dust-related powers. Suspecting thismight make her a mutant, she wants to learn as much as possible about what this means, how to control her abilities, and how to avoid being lynched. Not necessarily in that order.

Get A Life
After a lifetime of routine and just going with the flow, doing what she's told and not much more, the manifestation of Dusty's power and her not knowing whom to trust with her secret made her realize she can't always rely on others guiding her life. And so, now, she needs to learn to do things of her own initiative…

Flaws

Alien
Dusty has a British citizenship, but not an American one. As such, she is faced with added bureaucracy and limitations (for instance, she can't vote. Or become president. Okay, the latter is not going to matter much, but, hey).

Duty Bound
Dusty has a strong loyalty towards her employers, the Wildenmore-Higgins. To her, they are part of her and her family's life, and she can't imagine herself working for anyone else. Being fired would be a traumatic event for her, like losing a part of her life.

Picky
A lifetime spent taking care of the manor of very exacting employers who are all about etiquette means rigorous precision had to become a second nature to her. Want to drive her crazy and watch her squirm in her seat? Tilt all the picture frames in your house by a few degrees, then invite her over for tea.

Conserve Environment
Her employers and her family have very conservative views. While it is possible that some of the younger, unconventional, or closest members of her family might accept her being a mutant, the rest of the Tomes probably wouldn't. Nor would her employers. (OOC note: I plan for one or two family members to eventually discover Dusty's secret, but most of her family to remain hostile to them)

Cultural Gap
Dusty has moved to the US only recently. Sure, she speaks the language, although with a few variations and an accent different from the one of the locals, but a lot of local customs and celebrities are completely unknown to her, while some of hers are probably alien to Americans.
